Kim Salac (b.1999) is a Filipino-American artist and filmmaker who spent their childhood in Singapore and adolescence in Virginia. Their frequent inclusion of personal narratives seeks to problematize the notion of migrants as passive under globalized forces, working to feature them as dynamic subjects in their constant negotiation of space, and memory.
They have produced twenty-eight short films over the last six years, including the award-winning Diana, Diana, which was recently included in the New York Film Festival. Recognized through awards and fellowships, they taught at their alma-mater as an Aunspaugh Fellow, and later, exhibited their work as an artist-in-residence at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art.
They now reside in Brooklyn, New York, where they seek to expand their practice from one built on colonial grief towards a radical re-orientation of queer migrant people as time-keepers and time-travelers, as living and breathing archives.
