Inspired by a generational beachside that has since been developped over, The Seafarer presents a personal migration mythology based on inconsistent memory and feeling. In this visual diary, the artist recounts stages of a past life, held intact entirely through the found memories of strangers, hoarded trinkets, and a desire to return to a homeland that no longer exists. Everything in the film is a deliberate practice of collection, casted as a form of eulogy and rebuilding simultaneously. This act of “fishing,” of collecting to make sense and make familiar is a loving act, a living act, an inherently diasporic act.
